After a morning of downpours, the sun broke out briefly this afternoon and drew me outdoors. My fabulous winter bloomer, Clematis cirrhosa ‘Freckles’, was putting on a glorious show (see photos below). It is such a reliable winter-time bloomer for me. Much to my surprise, several of my spring and summer blooming clematis already have fresh green growth (more photos below)!

showing off in January.

Fresh new beginnings mingling with the old. Oh, such promise!

Hi! I have been searching high and low for Clematis Freckles but to no avail. Have you ever seen it for sale in US? Or do you have any suggestions on how to find it? Thanks!

Hi, Riley,
Brushwood Nursery (brushwoodnursery.com), an online retailer for clematis and other vines, often has Clematis Freckles. They don’t have it right now, but you could check in late August or early September when they put up new stock. Another online source is Donahue’s (donahuesclematis.com), but they also do not have it now. You can sometimes find it in nurseries, especially nurseries that sell Raymond Evison clematis.
I hope you find it! It’s a great winter bloomer when it’s happy, as long as you are in Zone 7 or warmer.
